CRC1690-Funded Position

Postdoctoral Researcher

One postdoctoral position is available at the “Brain-wide Networks” Research Group at the Department of Ophthalmology of the University Medical Center in Göttingen. We are looking for an excellent and highly motivated researcher with an interest in optogenetic vision restoration and in vivo brain imaging. This project aims to examine the impact of long periods of blindness on the capacity of the blind brain to process visual inputs restored by optogenetics in the mouse model. The succesful applicant will be part of the newly funded Collaborative Research Center CRC1690 to study “Disease Mechanisms and Functional Restoration of Sensory and Motor Systems” and will benefit from the collaborative environment and resources of the CRC1690.

FOR5807-Funded Position

PhD Student

One PhD positions is available at the “Brain-wide Networks” Research Group at the Department of Ophthalmology of the University Medical Center in Göttingen. We are looking for an excellent and highly motivated PhD student with an interest in the study of the noradrenergic system and its control of arousal in the brain. This project aims to determine whether the properties of the neurons in the Locus Coeruleus – a small brainstem nucleus which is the major source of noradrenaline in the brain – vary by projection target or if its different roles in modulating arousal are shaped by regional GPCR expression and neurotransmitter uptake. The succesful applicant will be part of the newly funded FOR5807 consortium to study “Dynamic integration of GPCR signaling to control organ function and animal behavior”. He/she/they will benefit from the collaboration among eight FOR5807 projects around Germany and have a close collaboration with our project partner Prof. Simon Wiegert (Medical Faculty Mannheim, Heidelberg University).
